A. Objectives

The main objectives of the course is the critical assimilation of key features of strategic planning and strategies for urban development and urban management, as well as the familiarization with new ideas which relate mostly to the contemporary international experience.

B. Aim

The principal aim of the course is to link urban planning and urban development (two of the three main directions of the Department) in relation to the theoretical deepening of students interested either in working immediately after the undergraduate diploma or continuing their studies at postgraduate level.

C. Knowledge

More specifically, the learning outcomes in which the course intends concern the acquisition of knowledge relating to urban development policies and management, the understanding of contemporary urban issues, the elaboration of strategic development proposals and the evaluation of strategic plans (it is, CCLDs, Integrated Plans, PPPs) and proposals for urban development.

D. Competencies

Taking into account the general competencies that the graduates should have acquired (as listed in the Diploma Supplement) the course contributes to the acquisition of the following:

– Research, analysis and synthesis of data and information, using essential technologies,

-Teamwork,

– Working in an international and interdisciplinary environment, understanding the main challenges of the SDGs and the EU Urban Agenda

-Project management and design for Urban Plans, Integrated Territorial Investments, Jessica investments, PPPs, CLLDs

Particular Competencies

There are no studio lessons but the module includes an participatory planning simulation (in the form of a game), a movie screening, special lectures, etc.  All these are part of the curriculum and provide learning opportunities for the students.

The way students are evaluated is related to the learning outcomes. Written essays, presence  in lectures, participation in the game, discussions after the end of each lecture, and the overall presence of each student are evaluated by the responsible teachers to make it clear to what extent the learning outcomes have been assimilated. The overall grade is clearly an average of the separate grades in the written text, in the oral presentation, in the discussions and in the lesson, with percentages being announced on the course outline at the beginning of the semester. The scores are published at the end of the semester. Analytical evaluations are available to students upon request.
