The course, addressed to a wide range of scientists, aims, primarily, to familiarize them with the basic concepts of sustainability, and then to provide specialized knowledge in specific issues of sustainable management of Natural Resources. The objective is also to acquire (through a multidisciplinary team) the ability to manage natural ecosystems and resources in order to satisfy (a) maintaining the balance of natural systems, (b) meeting human needs. Graduate students are provided periodically with papers, published in international journals, related to the preceding lecture, which they study and present in the classroom. In addition, during the semester, an assignment is being prepared, which is presented at the end of the semester, while dialogue, reflection, comparisons and arguments are developed. Throughout the semester the tutor oversees the course of work and the proper use of the literature.

Upon successful completion of the course, postgraduate students should have acquired specialized knowledge in the field of natural resource and ecosystem management, be able to compare the accuracy and effectiveness and evaluate management practices and / or protection policies between different countries, be able to solve problems and propose policy measures related to the natural environment, be able to combine and apply the knowledge gained in regional development planning and at a national level, etc., to contribute to the relevant research, to draw clear conclusions which they should be able to be communicated to a specialized (or not) public audience.
