Anestis Gourgiotis is an Assistant Professor of Spatial Planning at the Department of Spatial, Urban Planning and Regional Development of the University of Thessaly.
He is vice president of the of the Metropolitan Council Planning of Ministry of Environment and Energy and participates as an expert in the Executive Committee for Coordination and Monitoring of the elaboration of the Specials Spatial Frameworks for Mineral Resources and Tourism. He was the Director of the Spatial Planning Department of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Head of the Department of Special Spatial Frameworks of the same Directorate. He studied spatial planning at the University of Bordeaux in France, received a postgraduate degree in urban planning and did his PhD from the University of Thessaly, Department of Spatial, Urban Planning and Regional Development.
During the years 2002 to 2005 he was the National Representative of the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Public Works at the Council of the European Union in Brussels.
In the Μinistry of Environment and Energy among other things, he dealt with the elaboration, evaluation and revision of the Special Spatial Frameworks (RES, Tourism, Industry, mountain area, aquaculture, mineral raw materials), in the evaluation and revision of the Regional Spatial Planning Frameworks, in drafting the specifications for the landscape in the Regional Frameworks, to the National Landscape Commission.
He represented the Ministry of Environment and Energy at the European Conference of Ministers responsible for Spatial/Regional Planning (CEMAT). In the past he was a representative of the working groups of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
He also teaches spatial planning at the Training Institute of the National Center for Public Administration & Local Government. He has worked as a scientific consultant for the preparation and organization of international conferences, and during the years 1995-1996.
